Synopsis

School's out for summer in this sure-fire follow-up to the hit children's musical about student misfits who find love through song. This time round Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) are up against the lure of filthy lucre as the pressure of paying for college draws Zac into the clutches of the scheming Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale). She can get him a job at the country club her parents own, but will he really sing with her in the big talent show? There's little chance of real disappointment here, but although this may not have all the innocent freshness of the original, its sense of fun rises above the hammy script and manufactured plot. The musical numbers are ready-made for single release, the performances, as before, are energetic, and the minor characters are given extra screen time, making the action more rounded. All in all, it's a squeaky-clean delight.
