Synopsis

This amiable but bland Disney adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's bestseller stars Mischa Barton as a teenage wannabe poet who spends the summer looking after her dying grandfather. Well-heeled Jared Padalecki and marine biologist Ryan Merriman provide a distraction from her family duty, but fans of the novel will be more interested in her communication with the dolphins who warn her about an illegal drift-net fishing operation. Sadly, director Greg Beeman's concentration on human sentiment eventually works against the movie.
