Synopsis

This sentimental, Depression-era melodrama seems so far-fetched it's hard to believe that it's based on a true story. Robert Urich plays the unemployed Detroit father whose false arrest on potential murder charges prompts his three children to run away to the White House to try to get him released in time for Christmas. A host of colourful characters enliven the youngsters' cross-country road trip, padding out the otherwise skimpy plot but adding to the overall sense of syrupy unreality. Cheesy dialogue and general overacting don't help matters, though it still warms the heart when the trio are finally given their audience with President Hoover (the angel of the title).
