Synopsis
This is the first in a quartet of feature-length mysteries that enabled Angela Lansbury to continue playing crime-writing sleuth Jessica Fletcher after her long-running TV series ended. Ironically, it contains elements of another title on the Lansbury CV, The Lady Vanishes (the made-for-TV remake, that is), as murder witness Mel Harris disappears from under the nose of her FBI minder on the El Paso express. However, any hope that the story might develop along Hitchcockian lines, after the ever-curious novelist assumes Harris's identity, are soon dashed as the action meanders through the Arizona backwoods.
