Synopsis

This would-be gothic thriller unsuccessfully attempts to re-create the brooding atmosphere of classics such as Rebecca. Patsy Kensit plays the innocent young nanny employed to look after the son of scientist Simon MacCorkindale, whose wife died in suspicious circumstances. Kensit gradually falls under the widower's spell even though he could possibly be a murderer. Director Charles Jarrott's cause is hardly helped by the bland playing of the leads and, despite its gothic pretentions, it remains a very average melodrama.
