Synopsis

A Change of Place (1994) box art Since making her name with the lesbian love story Desert Hearts, director Donna Deitch has had to settle for a diet of TV movies. Set in a Paris fashion house, this melodrama makes up in style what it lacks in substance. Portraying twins is never easy, but Andrea Roth makes rather a meal of playing the bookish Kimberly, who trades places with model sister Dominique only to be suspected of leaking top-secret designs by whizzkid Rick Springfield. Stephanie Beacham and Ian Richardson raise the tone a touch, but once romance blossoms the suspense vanishes and the schmaltz sets in.
