Synopsis

The final feature from Fabien Bielinsky reunited the director with his Nine Queens star Ricardo Darín, here playing an epileptic taxidermist who's persuaded to accompany a friend (Alejandro Awada) on a hunting trip after being abandoned by his wife. However, an accident in the woods and the chance discovery of a brutal hotel owner's secret hideaway prompts Darín to assume the role of kingpin in a heist on a nearby casino. Conveniently possessed of a photographic memory, Darín responds to the potential perils of his new guise with an alacrity that belies his taciturn demeanour. But it's Bielinsky's confident control of his material that sustains this ingenious and highly cinematic house of cards.
