Synopsis

Jagged Edge (1985) box art Because writer Joe Eszterhas has continually reworked the same basic formula (hero/heroine falls for murder suspect), it's easy to forget how startling the scenario was when it was first employed in this compelling thriller. Glenn Close plays the defence attorney haunted by a case from her past when the wrong man went to jail, who falls in love with her latest client (Jeff Bridges), a charming publisher accused of brutally murdering his wealthy wife. Director Richard Marquand never misses a beat, gleefully tossing in red herrings and keeping us guessing until the end. There are expert support turns from Peter Coyote and a foul-mouthed Robert Loggia, and it remains an enthralling, if a tad incredible, ride.
