Synopsis

In days of old when knights were bold and painted scenery was a cutting-edge special effect, this Disney costume drama would have had children in raptures. Nowadays, it's grandparents who will get the most enjoyment out of this corny romp, in which Michael Gough's pantomime-stye wicked lord stands between Glynis Johns's winsome Mary Tudor and true happiness. Gleefully dispensing with historical fact, it's all simply an excuse for Richard Todd to prance about in brightly coloured tights (again), while James Robertson-Justice demonstrates what a Scottish Henry VIII might have sounded like.
