Synopsis

It's such a shame that mainstream Hollywood is so ageist, as Carol Burnett, George Segal and Malcolm McDowell demonstrate here what they might still do if they were offered a good story. Unfortunately, this is nothing more than a sentimental melodrama, in which Burnett's self-absorbed book publisher is forced to reappraise her priorities when her drug-addicted daughter, Jill Teed - whom she abandoned for a fling with her now-husband Segal - asks her to care for her young son (Eric Lloyd), while she sorts out her life. Director Lee Grant still manages some credible moments of moving intimacy in telling a laudably grown-up tale.
