Synopsis
No-one could accuse writer/director Stuart Urban's complex quest movie of not having ideas or ambition but, unfortunately, this saunter across Europe in search of a valuable relic is too ponderous and repetitious to appeal. James D'Arcy and Natasha Wightman are the bland couple following the convoluted trail of the "Loculus", an ancient box also sought by demonic immortal Udo Kier. The eventual explanation for the Loculus's true purpose is certainly a talking point and there are moments of visual panache, but the journey to enlightenment is grindingly dull. On a more positive note, Kier's menacing eyes and voice are an asset, as is the sun-kissed scenery, and there are a clutch of eccentric cameos, including Ron Moody as Sir Isaac Newton.
