Synopsis
The acclaimed Boogie Nights gave Burt Reynolds's flagging career a much-needed boost, but this average thriller, which he also directs, is closer in feel to the slew of forgettable films he starred in during the 1980s. He plays a cop who is framed for murder when a police drugs bust goes wrong. The strong supporting cast includes old sparring partner Charles Durning, Billy Dee Williams and Mia Sara, but, while the handling of Reynolds the director is assured, his action-man lead performance is less convincing. Nonetheless, the film has gone on to spawn a number of sequels Stateside, a tribute of sorts to the durability of Reynolds's appeal.
