Synopsis

This labour of love from first-time writer/director Jordan Roberts centres on a quartet of men bonding across four generations. Michael Caine plays Henry, the ailing great-grandfather being cared for in Los Angeles by his grandson, Jason (Josh Lucas), and great-grandson, Zach (Jonah Bobo). Then, out of the blue, Jason's father, Turner (Christopher Walken), returns home for the first time in 30 years. Following Henry's death, Turner, Jason and Zach take a road trip to Albequerque, stopping off at specific KFC outlets as they go, as per Henry's final request. Along the way, family mysteries are slowly solved. Its quirkiness feels rather forced and it lacks tension, but this heartfelt film is well acted and satisfyingly subtle, with a climactic revelation that is quietly, surprisingly moving.
