Synopsis

Sensibly retitled I Shall Return for the UK market, this ultra-patriotic flag-waver is made watchable today by the striking 1950s Technicolor. There's also the star presence of Tyrone Power, whose dramatic energy alone goes a long way towards saving the Filipinos, as he shows them how to build radio stations and organise their resistance against the Japanese. Director Fritz Lang never seemed happy at 20th Century-Fox, and this movie, despite its pacey action sequences, is rather too slow, especially in the dialogue scenes between naval officer Power and French import Micheline Presle. Incidentally, Presle was renamed "Prelle" as American audiences couldn't cope with the silent "s".
